Episode 1: Keeping it Fresh – Oya Organics

“… and on that farm she had some veggies!”

“You almost have to have your sunglasses on… the shine and the beauty of the produce is gorgeous. David Page, Executive Chef, Just Catering

I love a summer harvest: heirloom beefsteak and cherry tomatoes, green beans, wax beans, zucchinis, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, watermelons, mizuna, basil … It’s a vegetarian paradise!

Lucky for us and for our customers, we’ve found one of the premiere growers of organic produce right in our own back yard: Oya Organics in Hollister, California.

We took a trip down to the nine-acre organic oasis for our premiere episode of “Keeping it Fresh” and spoke with Farmer Marsha. She was kind enough to give us a tour of her scenic farm and handpick some veggies that David Page turned into a spectacular salad.

Farmer Marsha is in her second year of running the farm and uses “sustainable and organic practices to grow a little bit of everything.” Oya Organics bypasses brokers and wholesalers and instead does business with the local community via CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) boxes, farmers markets and businesses like Just Catering.

What’s amazing about Farmer Marsha and her farm is that we can call Marsha on any given day, ask her what’s fresh or what will soon be fresh and she’ll go out to the field and pick it that very same day.

It doesn’t get any fresher than that.
